Sleep Apnea? Who wants a free CPAP?

A real interesting question!  This is a little like asking who wants free chemo therapy or free radiation therapy.  Yes, the treatment could be extremely beneficial, but who really wants it?  The gold standard treatment for snoring and sleep apnea has become a continuous positive air pressure system (CPAP) that forces air into the throat and lungs overcoming the closed airway and allowing quiet continuous breathing. There should be no stoppage of breathing and no snoring.  Free breathing is very desirable, but wearing an air mask which is attached by a hose to a noisy air pump is not something any “normal” person would look forward to. Patients diagnosed with sleep apnea are usually offered the one choice of wearing the CPAP.   More than one half of those patients when given the choice choose not to be treated.  Unfortunately patients are given only one alternative CPAP which is unacceptable to most patients.  The good news is there is another choice!  Few are aware of an available appliance that will aid in opening the airway and very effectively treat the sleep apnea.  This treatment has been around for more than twenty years and I have been providing this treatment since 1996.  Success is very high.  Patient acceptance of treatment is good.   If you or someone you know is struggling with snoring or sleep apnea call for a complimentary evaluation!   Call The TMJ Sleep Center at  234-PAIN concerning sleep apnea, TMJ, headaches, & migraines.   drdwight@thetmjcenter.com

Yes!  For example, you could eat 100 calories of jelly beans or 100 calories of apple slices or grape tomatoes, but which one would fill you up more?  The jelly beans are very calorie dense, but are not likely to keep you full for very long.  The apples and tomatoes have a lower calorie density so will be able to eat more of them and still ingest only 100 calories.  Plus you will be getting vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber.  Also, people who eat more vegetables tend to lose weight and keep it off.  To learn more about how to eat for weight loss and health, and for great recipes, call us at 233-0593.  Our Weight Loss Solutions program is just $39 per month and includes unlimited exercise classes, weekly menus, a weight loss coach, and phone support!  Call for details today!

Recently, the local judiciary revised the procedures for family law cases.  A divorce case is now screened for mediation, which may be ordered if appropriate.  A mediator is selected, and mediation is to be completed within 28 days.  Because of the unique nature of family law cases, this procedure has been selected by our local courts to make divorce cases less combative and easier on the children involved.  A skilled family law attorney can assist you in navigating this new procedure as well as protecting your rights on property, retirement and debt matters.  Remember that a general informational series is not a substitute for actual legal representation.

Yes!  There are many ways to provide dental preventive care at home.  Brushing is the single best thing you can do for your pets’ teeth, and even a few times a week can make a huge difference.  Be sure to use toothpaste and brushes approved by your veterinarian, and work into the brushing routine slowly.  There are oral antiseptic rinses and water additives that help reduce plaque and tartar buildup and minimize gingivitis.  Rinsing sounds strange (no, your pet does not have to gargle), but it’s quicker and easier than you might think.  Some dental chews help manage tartar buildup; there are many of these on the market these days, and not all are created equal.  Ask your veterinarian for recommendations.  Your veterinarian may also recommend a special diet for your pet to manage dental disease, such as Science Diet’s new Healthy Advantage diet or Hill’s prescription t/d.Dental preventive care at home will greatly benefit your pets’ oral health, and therefore their overall health.  Keep in mind, however, that preventive care only goes so far.  We humans brush and floss, but we still need to see the dentist regularly for check-ups and cleanings, and the same holds true for our furry family members.  If it’s been a year or more since your pet was examined, call your veterinarian today to schedule a check-up.
