In short, NO!!!  While dogs and cats are mammals and therefore have many similarities to people, their tolerance of drugs often varies dramatically from humans.  Even in small amounts, over-the-counter pain medications, like non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) drugs such as Advil, can be toxic and even deadly to your pet.  Tylenol is particularly dangerous for cats.  Medications formulated specifically for dogs and cats are sometimes more expensive because generic equivalents are not available, but they entail much less risk to your pet.  NEVER give medication to your pet, over-the-counter or otherwise, before asking your veterinarian if it’s okay.  As the old adage goes, it’s better to be safe than sorry!
