Newspaper In Education

Newspapers in Education (NIE) is a nationwide program used by newspapers across the country. The goal of NIE is to promote literacy by using the newspaper as a teaching tool. NIE is a unique way for schools, teachers, children, youth and businesses to work together for the betterment of our wonderful community.

Several studies have shown that students who use the newspaper in the classroom on a weekly basis have higher reading, writing and critical thinking skills than students who do not use the newspaper. It's also fun! Children's minds open up when they are having fun. The newspaper is the only up-to-date textbook that can be cut, pasted, torn, shredded, wadded up, and is available and delivered brand new each day. It is also a textbook they will continue to use throughout their whole lives. Nothing is as versatile a teaching tool.
